A couple of fotos I took when I visited the Feldberg im Taunus and the Falconry which is located nearby.
I and other visitors discussed if hawking would be cruel to the birds and we learned the main purpose of the falconry would be the breeding and care of birds of prey. I'm still sceptical although I have to admit the sense of such a centre.

This weekend I met Isa and Beat to visit the Papilorama in Kerzers (near Bern). I am pretty unused to getting up early on a saturday as it seems.
Although me met at 9.45 in the morning it seemed *very* early to me xD.
The Papilorama is great. Actually it has a tropical area, a area which is called "Nocturama" and deals with the tropical nightlife and the
Papilorama with butterflies. The huminity in the tropical areas must have been close to 100%. Sweated like a pig. And it was *marvelous*!

Here some impressions:

Later the day Daniel Shoshkes came over, we had Dinner and then played lute duets. First I suggested some ad quartam duets by Wolf Heckel. A
composer I appreciate very much. I played Alto-Lute and Danny my "Party-Lute" which is tuned in E. Later we changed to english duets which are
more familiar and we played through very much of them. Danny asked for an instrument which would play itself and so I offered my Vihuela. It was
his first experience with a vihuela. Finally we recorded a few of pieces as evidence. I think Danny did a good job considering him being a
newby on Renaissance Lute.

This month was somehow interesting.
I saved 2 weeks time for a friend to visit. She never appeared - wrong: After me complaining one evening she supprisingly visited.
I was terribly disappointed especially because she complained she would not get dates. But there was no date for me. This (togetehr with some
other facts - I don't want to bore you too much) made me think ...
(result: she's the one and only person I ever kicked from my friendlist.)

Anyway - I used the time to contact "old" friends and felt this would be a much better way to spend my time. At least I felt my company would
be appreciated. This helped to make me feel better (I felt miserable to kick someone just because of very egoistic reasons).

The weekends were busy with concerts. One day I thought it would be a good idea to visit the beavers and otters in the wild park.

The weather was not well-suited for travelling so I planed to spend some time in Zürich which I really did occassionally. But I just took my
foto to the zoo where the fotos are taken.

I also did some video recording.
I really like this piece by Michelangelo Galilei:

From E.Mertel: Ein gar sehr traurig Liedlein

and N.Vallet: Onder de Lindegroene

(some more are on youtube - and as I finally seem to get near to an acceptable result I will possibly add some more music)

This weekend I actually planed to visit the Papilorama. But as this is indoors and the weather was fine and nobody wanted to join I decided to
stay at home and to spend the day in the wildpark instead.
This time the bears posed for me.

The park is seperated in two parts by a street. On the other side of the street I have been the only visitor so far. So the european bisons,
the wild horses were trusting. The European bisons were just half a meter away and I could feed them by hand.

On Sunday I just drove up the hill to the Buchenegg. A very small road (actually a single track road) leads in serpentines steep up the
hill. The road has been the most spectacular part of this trip although the view was beautiful.

On Whit Monday [info]black_syringa  and me have made an excursion to the Tierpark Goldau which romantically lies near Lake Zug in a valley. Everywhere deers and wild sheeps (Moufflons) are walking around. Some of them allowed the visitors to pet.

Of course we took a lot of fotos. And naturally it was big fun.

My beloved "refugee" had to work on saturday and so I decided to visit Seleger's Moor. It is announced as flower show on their website which
sounds nice but not to promising. So I expected a walk through the flowers of about 1 and a half hour (that's what the website says for a
walkabout). It turned out to be a fantastic place. It's so nice to walk on the soft boggy soil, to smell the flowers, watch the dragonflies,
the frogs ... so I've spent more than 5 hours there and took a very huge amount of mostly macro-fotographs.

You may watch the complete collection here.

And here are a few of my favourites.

The day after our trip to the Affenberg I basically was appointed with Mary. She is a very nice woman with very much history. I really like her humor and her children, too.
It has been a very hot day and Mary called to tell me she was ill. As already told she has much history and as a part of it she has a sensible health.
So I decided to make a little walk throough the woods and check the IR-facilities of my Olympus. Not the best idea ever. Although
the hills surely are not alpine in any ways they still are steep. So the walk was more sporty I would have expected (at least until I've reached
the wood. The view was great and I forgot about the effort of the climb.

Here now some fotos I took.

On Ascension day we ([info]black_syringa  and me) visited the german side of lake constance - the Affenberg Salem.
A wonderful place where they have more than 200 monkeys which are living free, they have a lot of storks and other animals which do fit better into the region.

A couple of fotos from my last trip to germany:
Most are taken at the "Dalles", the center of my hometown, some are taken inside the baroque church. Actually a typical protestant church of that area. The only speciality is the huge organ, which originally was built for the Nikolai-Church in Frankfurt (that's why there is the Frankfurt Eagle on top of the organ). It'e very likely Felix Mendolsohn-Bartholdy played this organ during his visit in Bad Soden in 1844/1845. In some letters to Fanny he praised the good organs of the region. For example, the Sonatas for organ, Opus 65, came into being in the area.

BTW: he met his wife, Cecilie, in 1836 in Frankfurt where the marriage 1837 took place. She was an exttraordinary pretty woman. A contemporary witness wrote:

The paintings show sacred scenes and near to the organ musical instruments.
Parts of the church are fairly old (the spire has been built in 1031 with additions, including very interesting paintings in the 15th century)
while the nave bears the date 1724. Some elements of the church possibly survived the battle near Höchst (1622) during the 30 year war when the nave burned out. Sulzbach has been very close to the center of this battle.

This month I was mainly busy still with moving. It was a tough time to clean the old flat, transport everything and I had a
job to do, too.
Anyway: Finally it seems the job is done and the number of things to do for the new home slowly decrease.

On Sechseläuten (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sechsel%C3%A4uten - the spring ceremony in Zürich) I had off and used the time to visit the wildpark which is now very close to my home.
I had the pleasure to watch wild cats (which look very similar to domestic cats). The shy animals are hard to watch, even in the park.
Then I visited the wolfes (no photos - there were tomany fences in beetween) and the lynx lying lazy on a tree before it climbed
down (which was big fun to watch but hard to fotograph). I take some descent shots. I like lynx! These animals are beautiful.
Again I tried to watch marmots but again I have had no luck. This time it was fairly loud around there place so I gave up quickly. Usually it helps to
wait for a while and remain as silent as possible. So I wandered to the bears - again I had no luck. They got a cup and therefore remained in their den.

On sunday I attended a game of "Hornussen". It's a widely unknown kind of sport which is played in switzerland, south africa and some parts of germany. It looks like a mixture of golf and baseball. A fascinating experience. More information about the sport on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hornussen, http://web.archive.org/web/20050317164817/http://www.hgepsach.ch/Frames/Was_ist_hornussen/englisch/english_main.htm or http://www.ehv.ch/joomla/  (the latter in german).

I've finished reading "Das Spiel des Engels" (The Angel's Game) by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. A book of highest literary quality and fairly entertaining although "Der Schatten des Windes" (The Shadow of the Wind) captured me more. I read both of them in german. The translation is well-done and reaches the appropriate high lingustic level. For a summary please go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Shadow_of_the_Wind and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Angel%27s_Game

The other book I read was "Making Money" by Terry Pratchett (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Making_Money) which is - must I say "as ever" - great fun to read
full of bizzare ideas, characters.

I haven't watched many movies in april due to a lack of time and I have to admit (ashamedly) I watched TV fairly often - actually a waste of time although there was an interesting play about a man from the ukraine who was among the employes cleaning Tschernobyl after the incident - not knowing about all the risks. His dream was to move to London (together with a friend). His friend moved a bit earlier and got stuck somewhere in germany (I guess it was Berlin). When the guy followed his friend already died. The film deals with his time in germany.
Although the plot sounds terribly serious it's filmed sensible and with a lot of humor.

On the musical side nearly nothing happend - although the mandolin orchestra had it's recitals at the beginning of april (not much music I would call "good" in the program this time) and there was a recital together with the other lute players near Basel at the end of march.

On the personal side even less happend - at least nothing I could report.

I don't know why but somehow the famous story about the Totemügerli is in my mind. A funny story because most words are pure fiction and invention of the author of the story (Franz Hohler) - but the story sounds authentic "berndütsch" and everybody imagines his story. The one or the other word even made it into common "Berndütsch" (for example agschnäggelet, but not as in the original story in the meaning of "scared" but rather "harassed"). and now the story itself:
sTotemügerli - Es bärndütsches Gschichtli von Franz Hohleraus dem Programm "Die Sparharfe" (1967)

Gäuit, wemer da grad eso schön bin anger sitze, hani däicht, chönntech vilicht es bärndütsches Gschichtli erzelle. I finally moved!

It was a pretty adventurous experience.
For Saturday I rent a bigger car (which to drive was an adventure by itself). In exchange I agreed to lend my small car to the owner of the bus. First thing
he did was to drive against a wall. So I am without car at the moment. And it is in Frauenfeld and I wonder how I will manage to take it back to Adliswil.
Later Jürg arrived and helped to pack the larger stuff and the furniture I couldn't carry myself. I counted 8 larger pieces - it may sound unbelievable but it took until half past 1 in the orning to
transport this over a distance of about 60 km. Then the complete week was filled with driving from Adliswil to Aadorf, packing stuff into my car, driving
back to Adliswil and hauling it to my flat in the 3rd floor.
Finally most of my stuff now is in Adliswil and just the PC-table, the cleaning stuff and a lot of trash are still in Aadorf.

In between I visited Mary who agreed to help shopping some additional furniture - I needed a new bed (because I lost one single screw on my old one), a Sofa, a table for the living room and
some standard lamps. We visited several shops (Conforama and Lipo) and I got all I needed except the table. Most of it will arrive during the week.

Remarkable observations:

  • one day I woke up and literally wasn't able to move - half an hour later I could stand crookedly and it took another hour until I was able to move as usual.
  • There were some recitals on friday and sunday, too - I wonder how I managed to play the virtuous parts after hauling all this stuff - I recorded the recital of friday.
  • Possibly I'll publish one of the pieces later.
  • Spring finally has arrived! The tender green is more than welcome after the endless whites of winter.
  • My new flat is *huge*
  • I don't want to climb any stairs anymore
  • some sightseeing trips are already planed (Uetliberg, Sihlzentrum, Albis, Zürich Zoo, Rheinfall, Jura ...)
  • It's *so* nice to sleep until 6:30 (instead of 5:15) now!

Making my way to Zürich by train every morning is somewhat a new experience to me.
I often traveled by train earlier but it's very long ago since I've had to travel with a commuter train.
When waiting for my train to come in Aadorf it's mainly school children waiting with me, many tired, some are chatting, others listen to their
players - and many are writing SMS. Funny that at that early time one doesn't recognize the kind of girls who *want* to attract attention - later at the main station you
can tell those considering themself "pretty" very well. Usually it's a barbie-like, slim figure with an empty look in her face - the only expression seems to be
"look how beautiful I am". Nothing to raise my interest except the "open folder - filing - close folder".
In Winterthur the passangers change - the school children being exchanged by business people along with some women on a trip to Zürich to do some shopping.
Most of them reading one of the newspapers you get in switzerland for free at any train- and busstation.
The bussiness divide themselfes in different groups. The tuxedo and tie-wearing bankers which all seem to look the same - the uniform of what is
supposed to be successfull men (and women). A few working men (I saw one rolling his joints - to consume Marihuana and Cannabis seems to be very common in switzerland),
some people in casual dress (like me).
Another thing worth to pay attention is the way people move in train stations. Mamas using their baby carriage like a weapon, the feeling the would deserve any
respect in doing so clearly expressed in their view, people like me tiredly walking towards the next train hoping to miss it to have additional 10 minutes to read another
passage in their book, businessmen walking straight forward milling people who might stand in their way like a tank, groups of people who have to stopp abrouptly exact at a place
where the stand in the way of as many people as possible, cell-phoning girls and boys ... oh! Cell-phoning is another nice thing to watch. Businessmen use to speak loud and
somewhat demonstrate how important they are, those hip-hopping ludicous youngsters who speak loud as well with the purpose to show everybody how cool they are. The girls  seem to be rather reluctant
and silent. Rather an SMS than a call. But it seems some certain topics need a wider public attention especially if there is a guy nolved who is terribly (and of course completely in vain) fallen in love.
I know I am generalizing very (too) much. But hey! It's just my tired observations from behind a book ...

I have been lazy in updating my Livejournal again. Please excuse!

Quite some things have happened and I want to inform you quickly what it was:

I have been in Fribourg to instruct my successor. It was terribly cold and glassy. But I was able to shoot a couple of fotos of the city. Because the company paid for it I took a hotel in the center.

The rest of my working life at the EDS I mainly spent watching videos.

Then the swiss lute playing community had a rehearsal over a weekend in Rorschach which was pretty successful – but the main event was the dinner at the local Spanish club.

Now I finally started my new job with Swisslife – an insurance company in Zürich. My job will be (if they finally manage to complete my working environment) to maintain a program devoted to administer collective insurances. At the moment everything looks much better than the conditions at EDS/HP. The only thing I really don’t like is: I have to go to bed early because a single trip to Zürich takes nearly 1 and a half hour. So I’m looking forward to moving to Adliswil which is much closer to Zürich.

On the private side not much happened – as I expected I got some virtual contacts while others lapse. I found the latter somehow hard to handle. I’m constantly asking myself if it’s my fault. Possibly things like that are just happening – but why?

I enclose some of the pictures I took during the last month and hope you’ll enjoy them.
